Google Partners with Commonwealth Fusion Systems!
Google has announced a new partnership with Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), a company spun out of MIT. This is Google’s first step into the world of fusion energy.
Under the agreement, Google will buy 200 megawatts of fusion power from CFS’s ARC plant in Virginia. The ARC plant is set to be the first grid-scale fusion power plant. It will generate 400 megawatts of clean energy, enough to power around 150,000 homes or large industrial sites.
What the Google Fusion Venture Means for the Future
Google has been investing in CFS since 2021 and will now increase its stake in the company. This move supports Google’s goal of promoting clean energy. The agreement also allows Google to buy energy from more ARC plants in the future.
They didn’t disclose any information about the financial terms. But this partnership is a key step for Google in supporting clean, sustainable energy.
“We’re excited to back a technology that could change how the world gets energy,” said Michael Terrell, head of advanced energy at Google. He explained that the company is helping CFS reach key scientific and engineering goals.
Google’s Growing Support for Fusion Power
CFS is just one of many companies working on fusion energy. Google is also funding other fusion projects. Recently, they also invested more in TAE Technologies, a fusion company in California. This shows Google’s strong commitment to Google Fusion Ventures and clean energy technology.
